Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup poppy seed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine poppy seed and milk.
  2. Let stand for 3 to 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven and grease and flour a standard size loaf pan.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the seed and milk mixture with the eggs (at room temperature), softened butter, sugar, and vanilla.
  5. Add the all-purpose flour and baking powder to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 50-60 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool before removing from the pan.
