Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. hot or mild smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 (28 oz.) can pinto beans
  • 2 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. spicy brown mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, sausage, and chopped onion in a heavy pan.
  2. Cook until beef is browned, stirring to crumble meat. Drain off fat.
  3. Drain pinto beans, reserving liquid.
  4. Add reserved liquid to meat mixture, then stir in remaining ingredients except beans.
  5. Add about 1/2 cup water if needed.
  6. Cover and simmer for 35 to 40 minutes.
  7. Add beans and cook for an additional 15 minutes.
