Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons soft butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons salt
  • 2 apples, sliced
  • granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix the soda and sour milk together.
  2. Add the beaten egg, salt, sugar, softened butter, and flour; beat vigorously until well combined.
  3. Add baking powder and beat again until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  5. Press peeled and sliced apples into the batter.
  6. Sprinkle a mixture of granulated sugar and cinnamon over the top.
  7. Dot the surface with small pieces of butter.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until golden brown. (Use a glass pan at 325°F for 45 minutes).
