Tips & Substitutions

For extra flavor, consider adding garlic powder or a dash of hot sauce to the mixture. If you're short on time, you can use pre-cooked rice instead of instant rice. Swap out the frozen broccoli for fresh if available, just blanch it beforehand. This dish is also great with different cheese spreads, so feel free to experiment with varieties like cheddar or pepper jack.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this creamy ham and broccoli dish over a bed of fluffy rice or with crusty bread on the side. It pairs beautifully with a side salad or roasted vegetables for a complete meal. For a hearty addition, consider serving with a side of Calico Beans With Turkey, which complements the flavors well.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in a covered microwave-safe dish, adding a splash of milk to maintain creaminess, and microwave in 1-minute increments until heated through. You can also reheat in a slow cooker on low until warmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh broccoli instead of frozen?

Yes, fresh broccoli can be used! Just blanch it in boiling water for a few minutes until tender before adding it to the slow cooker. This will help maintain its vibrant color and texture in the final dish.

What can I substitute for the condensed cream of mushroom soup?

If you don't have condensed cream of mushroom soup, you can use cream of chicken soup or make a homemade cream sauce with butter, flour, and broth. This will still create a deliciously creamy texture for the dish.

How can I make this dish lower in fat?

To reduce the fat content, opt for low-fat cheese spread and use turkey ham instead of regular ham. You can also reduce the amount of cheese spread and increase the amount of broccoli and rice to boost nutrition without sacrificing flavor.
