- Place carrots and salt in a saucepan containing about 1 inch of boiling water.
- Simmer for 20 minutes or until tender.
- Drain, reserving the liquid.
- Add hot water to the liquid to make 1 cup.
- Dissolve the bouillon cube or granules in the carrot liquid and set aside.
- In a separate skillet, melt the margarine and sauté sliced onions until tender.
- Sprinkle flour and pepper over the onions and cook, stirring, until slightly thickened.
- Add the prepared carrot liquid to the onion mixture and cook until heated through.
