Ingredients

  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon rum flavoring
  • 2 sticks real butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1 cup sweet milk

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, Crisco, and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add one egg at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Alternately add dry ingredients and sweet milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients, mixing after each addition.
  4. Stir in rum flavoring.
  5. Lightly grease and flour the baking pan.
  6. Bake in a 325°F oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
  7. Do not open the oven door or shake the floor before the time is up.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool before serving.
