Ingredients

  • 7 lb. cucumbers, sliced
  • 2 c. pickling lime
  • 1 1/2 gal. cold water
  • 4 lb. sugar
  • 1 1/2 qt. vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. whole cloves
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 Tbsp. pickling spices

Instructions

  1. Cut cucumbers, unpeeled, into 3/8-inch slices.
  2. Dissolve pickling lime in cold water.
  3. Soak cucumbers in the lime solution for 24 hours.
  4. Rinse cucumbers well and soak in clear water for 3 hours.
  5. Dissolve sugar in vinegar and add salt, cloves, celery seed, and pickling spices.
  6. Soak cucumbers in the vinegar solution overnight.
  7. Cook on stove for 35 minutes or until slices are clear.
  8. Put in hot jars and seal.
