Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, marinate the round steak in the sauce ingredients overnight before cooking. If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can add a cornstarch slurry towards the end of cooking. Substitute the round steak with flank or sirloin for different textures; just adjust cooking time accordingly. This dish can be served with a side of roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes to soak up the sauce.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Sunday Steak with a generous helping of the sauce over the top. Pair it with buttery mashed potatoes and steamed green beans for a comforting meal. A refreshing Summer Strawberry Drink complements the richness of the steak beautifully. For a crowd-pleasing experience, consider serving with Michigan Cherry Torte for dessert.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat or in the microwave, adding a splash of water to maintain moisture. This dish also freezes well; just ensure it’s in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of steak for this recipe?

Yes, you can use other cuts like flank or sirloin steak. Just keep in mind that the cooking time may vary based on the cut's thickness and tenderness. Flank steak will require less time, while sirloin can be cooked similarly to round steak.

What can I do if my sauce is too thin?

If the sauce is too thin, you can thicken it by mixing a tablespoon of cornstarch with a little cold water to create a slurry. Stir this into the sauce and simmer for a few minutes until it thickens. Alternatively, simmering the sauce longer can also help reduce it.

Is this dish suitable for meal prep?

Absolutely! This dish is perfect for meal prep. You can cook it ahead of time and store portions in the fridge or freezer. Just reheat when ready to serve, and it will taste even better as the flavors meld together over time.
