Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup strawberry jam
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates

Instructions

  1. Mix together the butter, sugar, egg yolks, salt, and flour to form a dough.
  2. Press half of the dough into a greased square cake pan.
  3. Spread the strawberry jam evenly over the dough.
  4. Sprinkle the chopped nuts and chopped dates evenly on top of the jam layer.
  5. Cover with the remaining dough, crumbled or rolled out, to form a top layer.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (160°C) until light brown, about 25 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven, let cool, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  8. Cut into squares before serving.
