Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 4 whole eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, sugar, and salt until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Use a mixer for best results.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Alternate adding flour and buttermilk, starting and ending with flour. Add soda with the buttermilk.
  5. Stir in water and vanilla extract.
  6. Grease and flour a tube pan.
  7. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for about one hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool before removing from the pan.
