Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 3/4 cup cold lard
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup plus 1/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Combine self-rising flour and cold lard until mixture is crumbly.
  2. Add baking powder and cut in until the mixture is mealy.
  3. Add buttermilk and stir to form a dough.
  4. Let the dough stand for 5 minutes.
  5. Flour your counter or tabletop and shape the dough into a ball.
  6. Knead gently 8 to 12 times.
  7. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  8. Melt a cup of butter and dip each biscuit into the butter.
  9. Place the dipped biscuits on a baking sheet.
  10. Bake at 400°F for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
