Deviled Short Ribs feature tender, flavorful beef ribs simmered in a tangy, savory sauce with a hint of sweetness and spice, perfect for hearty, comforting meals.

Ingredients

  • 4 lb. beef short ribs
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 3/4 c. catsup
  • 1/4 c. soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • 1/2 c. dry red wine
  • 1 onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Brown the short ribs on all sides in a skillet or oven-proof pan.
  2. Pour off excess fat from the browned ribs.
  3. Combine all ingredients except the onion and pour over the browned ribs.
  4. Place sliced onion on top of the ribs.
  5. Cook slowly for 1 1/2 hours or until the ribs are fork-tender.
  6. Skim off fat before serving.
  7. If desired, thicken the sauce with flour before serving.
