Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 heaping teaspoon soda
  • 2/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter; slowly add the sugar and beat thoroughly.
  2. Add well-beaten eggs and the soda dissolved in a little hot water.
  3. Mix in the cocoa dissolved in hot water.
  4. Alternately add sour milk and sifted flour, mixing until smooth.
  5. Add vanilla and mix well.
  6. Pour the batter into a prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake in a moderate oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
  8. Use boiled frosting, same as frosting for Angel Food Cake.
