Ingredients

  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 3/4 cups white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups ice water

Instructions

  1. Cream margarine and sugar until smooth.
  2. Add vanilla and eggs; beat well.
  3. Blend in cocoa powder.
  4. Sift together flour, soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with ice water, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Pour batter into a greased and lightly floured pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
