Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar, sifted
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups cake flour, sifted
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup sweet milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
  • 1 teaspoon lemon flavoring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the sugar, cake flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Cream the butter, Crisco, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Mix in vanilla and lemon flavorings.
  6. Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with sweet milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for approximately 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
