Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted Crisco
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, milk, and egg in a bowl; add melted Crisco.
  2. Add sifted flour, salt, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon to the liquid mixture.
  3. Combine the two mixtures lightly until just mixed.
  4. Drop teaspoons of batter into deep hot Crisco, heated to 365°F, until they turn golden brown (about 4 minutes).
  5. Fry doughnut balls until cooked through and golden brown in the center.
  6. Drain on absorbent paper and roll in powdered sugar if desired.
