- Saute onions in 1/4 stick margarine; add cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and grated Cheddar cheese until cheese is melted.
- Break up frozen hash brown potatoes into small pieces; place in a greased 9 x 13-inch casserole dish.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Pour the cheese and soup mixture over the potatoes.
- Melt 1/2 stick of margarine (oleo); add 1 cup crushed corn flakes to this and spread over the casserole.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes to 1 hour until bubbly and golden.
