Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds
  • confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Grease and flour a large baking sheet.
  2. Trace an 8-inch circle on the sheet.
  3. In a medium saucepan, heat water, butter, sugar, and salt to a full boil.
  4. Stir in the flour.
  5. Cook, stirring until a paste forms a ball and leaves the side of the pan.
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. In a food processor or by hand, beat in eggs, one at a time, until the paste is smooth and shiny.
  8. Spoon the mixture onto the baking sheet to form a circle along the traced line.
  9. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 55 to 60 minutes or until browned and firm.
  11. Place on a rack to cool.
  12. Split the ring with a knife to create a top and bottom.
  13. Fill with cream filling.
  14. Dust with confectioners sugar.
