Ingredients

  • 6 tart apples
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a pie pan with pastry.
  3. Pare apples and slice thin.
  4. Mix 1/2 cup sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour over apples.
  5. Toss lightly with a fork to coat apples evenly.
  6. Put the apple mixture into the unbaked pastry shell.
  7. Combine remaining sugar and flour; add butter.
  8. Rub together until crumbs are formed.
  9. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the apples.
  10. Bake for 40 minutes or until apples are thoroughly cooked.
  11. Serve warm with Cheddar cheese.
