Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over chopped dates and soda; let stand until cool.
  2. Add remaining ingredients: butter, sugar, egg, vanilla, flour, walnuts, and salt; mix well.
  3. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan.
  4. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
