Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread
  • 1 lb American cheese, grated
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • dash of pepper

Instructions

  1. Butter the bread on one side and dice into 1/2-inch cubes.
  2. Grate the American cheese.
  3. In a 2-quart buttered casserole, alternate layers of bread and cheese, making four layers in total.
  4. Mix the eggs, milk, dry mustard, and pepper thoroughly.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the layered bread and cheese in the casserole.
  6. Refrigerate overnight.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour until golden and set.
