Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter Crisco
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine sugar and Crisco in a large bowl. Beat at medium speed until well blended.
  3. Add eggs, light corn syrup, and vanilla. Beat well.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture at low speed, mixing until well blended.
  6. Divide the dough into quarters.
  7. If dough is too sticky, refrigerate for 1 hour.
  8. Keep covered until ready to roll. Place a quarter of the dough on floured paper.
  9. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
  10. Cut out with a floured cutter.
  11. Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
  12. Sprinkle with sugar or decorations if desired. Bake at 375°F for 5 to 9 minutes.
