Ingredients

  • 14 to 16 slices bread (decrusted)
  • 4 cups milk
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons dry mustard
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 to 6 cups grated sharp Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Blend milk, beaten eggs, dry mustard, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce together.
  2. Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  3. Layer 7 to 8 slices of bread in the pan.
  4. Cover with half of the grated sharp Cheddar cheese and half of the egg mixture.
  5. Repeat the layering with the remaining bread, cheese, and egg mixture.
  6. Refrigerate overnight or for several hours to allow flavors to meld.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour until golden and set.
  8. Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before cutting into squares.
