Ingredients

  • 2 cakes yeast or 2 envelopes dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 pound butter or margarine
  • 2 egg yolks
  • pared apple slices

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water; set aside until bubbly.
  2. Sift together flour, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in butter as for pie dough.
  4. Add egg yolks to yeast mixture and combine with flour and butter mixture.
  5. Roll dough out thin; cut into squares and place about 3 apple slices in the center of each.
  6. Sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar, a dab of flour, and dot with butter.
  7. Fold dough over apples and pinch edges to seal.
  8. Place in greased pans and let rise for about 35 minutes.
  9. Bake at 325°F for approximately 25 minutes until lightly browned.
