Tips & Substitutions

For a spicier relish, consider adding diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne pepper. If you're short on fresh ingredients, you can substitute canned tomatoes for the fresh ones. Make sure to use a good quality vinegar for the best flavor. When boiling, stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and taste the mixture before sealing it in jars to adjust sweetness or acidity if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other types of tomatoes for this recipe?

Yes, you can use other varieties of tomatoes if you prefer. However, ensure that the total weight remains the same to maintain the balance of flavors. Roma or heirloom tomatoes can also work well, providing a different taste and texture to the relish.

How long does the relish need to sit before using?

Is this recipe suitable for canning?
