Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped apples
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup oleo
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Simmer chopped apples and molasses for 2 hours, or less if using applesauce. Let cool.
  2. Add spices and soda to the sifted flour and beat well.
  3. Gradually add milk, adjusting the amount based on the apple mixture's consistency, and beat the batter.
  4. Fold in raisins gently into the batter.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased loaf or tube pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
