Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 to 3 ounces filberts

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix 3/4 cup sugar, the margarine, shortening, and egg.
  3. Stir in flour, vanilla, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Shape dough by teaspoonfuls around filberts to form balls.
  5. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake until delicately brown, 12 to 15 minutes; cool.
  7. Dip tops of cookies into glaze, then into sugar.
