Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb butter
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 c flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 oz whiskey
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cut butter, egg, and egg yolks into small pieces and mix together.
  2. Add sugar, salt, whiskey, and vanilla to the mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour while mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Chill the dough for 1 hour or more.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a paper-thin thickness.
  6. Cut the dough into 2-inch by 3-inch strips.
  7. Make a slit in the center of each strip and pull one end of the dough through to form a loose knot.
  8. Deep fry the knots in hot oil until they are light golden brown.
  9. Drain the fried pastries and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
