Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup soft shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Mix together thoroughly the shortening, sugar, and egg.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  4. Add to the shortening, sugar, and egg mixture alternately with the milk, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Fill muffin pans two-thirds full with the batter.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes or until thoroughly baked.
  7. When baked, roll the puffs in melted butter, then in sugar or cinnamon-sugar mixture.
