- Pare, halve, and core the pears; chop to make 1 cup.
- In a large bowl, beat oil and sugar until blended.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time; add sour cream and vanilla.
- Sift together flour, salt, soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add the sifted dry ingredients to the oil-sugar mixture and beat until well blended.
- Stir in chopped nuts and chopped pears.
- Spoon the batter into a well-greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour.
- Cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Turn out onto a rack to cool completely.
