Ingredients

  • 2 or 3 fresh pears
  • 1/2 cup salad oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Pare, halve, and core the pears; chop to make 1 cup.
  2. In a large bowl, beat oil and sugar until blended.
  3. Beat in eggs, one at a time; add sour cream and vanilla.
  4. Sift together flour, salt, soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the oil-sugar mixture and beat until well blended.
  6. Stir in chopped nuts and chopped pears.
  7. Spoon the batter into a well-greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes.
  10. Turn out onto a rack to cool completely.
