Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon butter

Instructions

  1. Beat the egg until light and well blended.
  2. Add the milk, sifted dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt), and melted butter to the beaten egg.
  3. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Heat deep fat to 370°F (about 188°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot fat.
  6. Fry until light brown and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  7. Remove with a skimmer and drain on brown paper.
