Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c. flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3/4 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • oil
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour, salt, soda, sugar, and baking powder together in a bowl.
  2. Mix the beaten egg and milk together; then add to the dry ingredients.
  3. Beat the mixture until smooth.
  4. Hold your finger over the bottom of a funnel and pour in some batter.
  5. Remove your finger to let the batter drop.
  6. Drop the batter in a spiral motion into a pan filled with 1 inch of hot oil at 375°F.
  7. Fry until golden brown, turning once.
  8. Remove from the pan and drain on a paper towel.
  9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve hot.
