Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger meat
  • 1/2 lb. mild sausage
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Mix hamburger meat, mild sausage, cooked rice, chopped onion, salt, and pepper together; form into small meatballs.
  2. Separate cabbage leaves and boil in water until softened.
  3. Place one meatball in the center of a cabbage leaf, roll up, and secure with a toothpick.
  4. Arrange the cabbage rolls in a Dutch oven, then add tomato sauce and water.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1.5 hours, skimming off fat as it cooks.
