Ingredients

  • 1 German chocolate cake mix
  • 14 oz. bag light caramels
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 6 oz. package chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk; cook over low heat.
  2. Stir constantly until the caramels melt; set aside.
  3. Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the dry cake mix, melted butter, remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and chopped pecans. Stir until the dough holds together.
  5. Press half of the dough into the prepared baking pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 6 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the baked crust.
  7. Spread the caramel mixture over the chocolate chips.
  8. Crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer.
  9. Bake in the oven for an additional 15 to 18 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool slightly.
  11. Refrigerate the bars in the pan for 30 minutes.
  12. Cut into bars and wrap for serving.
