Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix butter, shortening, sugar, and eggs together.
  2. Beat the mixture for at least 20 minutes until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Blend in the flour and baking powder until well combined.
  4. Slightly warm the milk and vanilla.
  5. Pour the warm milk and vanilla into the batter and mix well.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased tube pan.
  7. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 1½ hours or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool slightly, then sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
