Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 teaspoons soda

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, ginger, soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and molasses to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined.
  5. Form the dough into 1-inch diameter balls.
  6. Roll each ball in granulated sugar.
  7. Place cookies on an ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes until cookies crack when done.
