Ingredients

  • 12 slices bread
  • 1 to 2 cups diced ham
  • 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped green pepper
  • 4 green onions
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese grated
  • 1/4 cup Jack cheese grated (optional)
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. In a 9 x 13-inch pan, place 6 slices of bread, buttered face down in the pan, with crusts removed.
  2. Add diced ham, mushrooms (if using), chopped green pepper, green onions, and grated Cheddar and Jack cheeses.
  3. Cover with 6 slices of bread that have been cubed, preferably slightly frozen for easier cutting.
  4. Beat eggs with milk and pour over the layered ingredients in the pan.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Bake, uncovered, on a cookie sheet at 350°F for 1 hour until set.
  7. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
