Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. dark molasses
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. chopped fruit (apple, raisins, walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and brown sugar together until fluffy.
  2. Beat in egg and molasses.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  4. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture, alternately with buttermilk.
  5. Stir in chopped fruit and nuts.
