Ingredients

  • 2 cups bread broken in pieces
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs until well mixed, then add sugar, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. Stir in milk and mix well.
  3. Place bread pieces in a bowl and pour the milk mixture over the bread.
  4. Bake about 45 minutes in a 350°F oven.
  5. The pudding is done when a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. It will puff up but will settle after removal from the oven.
  7. Serve with caramel sauce poured over the top.
