Ingredients

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup lard
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup raisins, soaked
  • flour (to make stiff)

Instructions

  1. Cream the lard and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the soda to the buttermilk and mix well.
  3. Sift the flour and gradually alternate adding the flour mixture and the buttermilk mixture to the creamed mixture, including a pinch of salt.
  4. Drain the soaked raisins and fold them into the dough.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to desired thickness.
  6. Cut into shapes as desired.
  7. Bake at 375°F until golden brown, about 10 minutes.
