  1. Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan (do not flour).
  2. Cream butter and sugar together.
  3. Add beaten egg yolks and mix well.
  4. Sift salt, baking powder, and flour together.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Add vanilla and beat well.
  7. Divide the batter into two equal parts.
  8. Add chocolate to one half of the batter.
  9. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  10. Fold half of the beaten egg whites into the vanilla batter and the other half into the chocolate batter.
  11. Drop spoonfuls of vanilla and chocolate batter into the prepared pan alternately, creating a marbled effect.
  12. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until done, approximately 45 minutes.
