Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Grease an 8-inch square pan.
  2. Stir together the egg, brown sugar, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Quickly stir in the sifted flour and baking soda until just incorporated.
  4. Add the coarsely chopped walnuts to the mixture.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes, until the center is very soft.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  8. Cut into squares and remove from the pan.
  9. Cool completely and store tightly covered.
