- Grease an 8-inch square pan.
- Stir together the egg, brown sugar, and vanilla until well combined.
- Quickly stir in the sifted flour and baking soda until just incorporated.
- Add the coarsely chopped walnuts to the mixture.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes, until the center is very soft.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
- Cut into squares and remove from the pan.
- Cool completely and store tightly covered.
