Granny'S Cabbage Casserole

- Cook cabbage in boiling salted water until tender; drain thoroughly.
- In a large skillet, sauté chopped onion in 5 tablespoons of butter until tender.
- Add undiluted cream of mushroom soup to the skillet and mix well.
- Add cubed processed American cheese and heat, stirring until melted.
- Remove from heat and stir in cooked cabbage, salt, and pepper.
- Transfer the mixture to an ungreased 2-quart baking dish.
- In a small skillet, melt remaining butter and cook bread crumbs in it until lightly browned.
- Sprinkle toasted bread crumbs over the casserole.
- Bake uncovered at 350°F for 20 to 30 minutes or until heated thoroughly.
