Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 and 2/3 cups milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • dash of salt
  • 1/8 stick margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 (9-inch) pie shell

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a double boiler.
  2. Gradually add milk, mixing thoroughly.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
  4. Add egg yolks and cook until very thick, stirring frequently.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and margarine.
  6. Prepare meringue by beating egg whites with 4 tablespoons sugar until stiff peaks form.
  7. Spread the meringue over the hot chocolate filling.
  8. Bake at 325°F for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
