Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 1/4 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 large can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 to 6 tsp. Gebhardt chili powder
  • 3 to 6 tsp. hot salsa or picante

Instructions

  1. Add salt to the ground chuck and fry the meat until browned.
  2. Pour off excess grease from the meat.
  3. Lightly coat the meat with flour to absorb all remaining grease.
  4. Add chili powder and mix well.
  5. Add stewed tomatoes, diced onion, and kidney beans to the pot.
  6. Pour in water and add salsa or picante to the chili.
  7. Simmer the chili for several hours until flavors meld and it is thoroughly cooked.
  8. Stir periodically during cooking.
  9. Ensure there is no grease on the chili before serving.
