Ingredients

  • 4 slices smoked ham
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 2 small onions
  • 1 large clove garlic
  • 4 c. sauerkraut
  • 2 apples
  • 1 c. apple juice
  • 1 c. white wine
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme leaves

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add finely chopped onions and minced garlic; sauté until translucent.
  3. Add rinsed and drained sauerkraut to the skillet; cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in grated apples, apple juice, white wine, and dried thyme; simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, heat the smoked ham slices in a separate pan or oven until warmed through.
  6. Serve the ham slices topped with the apple-kraut mixture.
