Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 lb. boned pot roast
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 can beef broth
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 medium bay leaf
  • 6 carrots, cut in 2 inch pieces
  • 4 potatoes, cut in thirds
  • 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy pan, brown the pot roast in shortening.
  2. Pour off excess fat and reserve 3/4 cup of beef broth.
  3. Add the remaining beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and bay leaf to the pan.
  4. Cover and cook over low heat for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add carrots and potatoes to the pan.
  6. Cook for an additional hour or until the meat and vegetables are tender.
  7. Blend the reserved broth with flour until smooth.
  8. Add cinnamon to the flour mixture.
  9. Slowly stir the flour mixture into the sauce.
  10. Cook until the sauce thickens.
