Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup boiling water over the raisins and soda.
  2. Let stand until cool.
  3. Add the sugar, shortening, egg, flour, salt, and nuts to the raisin mixture and stir.
  4. Pour the batter into well-greased and floured large soup or juice cans, filling them half to 2/3 full.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes.
