Ingredients

  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup ground walnuts
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, salt, and ginger.
  2. Cut in the shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the ground walnuts and mix thoroughly.
  4. Stir in water gradually to form a dough.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball.
  6. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
  7. Line a 9-inch pie plate with the pastry.
  8. Trim and flute the edges of the pastry.
  9. Chill the prepared crust for 15 minutes before filling.
