- Scald 1 cup milk. Add 1 cup honey and sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
- Cool the mixture. Beat in the softened butter and eggs.
- Sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda and stir into the batter.
- Beat well. Add the coarsely chopped walnuts and grated orange rind.
- Pour the batter into a floured and buttered loaf pan.
- Bake in a moderately slow oven at 325°F (160°C) for about 1 hour.
- Cool the bread for 15 minutes in the pan, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool.
- Serve thinly sliced with butter or cream cheese.
