Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. honey
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. grated orange rind
  • 1/2 c. walnuts, coarsely chopped

Instructions

  1. Scald 1 cup milk. Add 1 cup honey and sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Cool the mixture. Beat in the softened butter and eggs.
  3. Sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda and stir into the batter.
  4. Beat well. Add the coarsely chopped walnuts and grated orange rind.
  5. Pour the batter into a floured and buttered loaf pan.
  6. Bake in a moderately slow oven at 325°F (160°C) for about 1 hour.
  7. Cool the bread for 15 minutes in the pan, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool.
  8. Serve thinly sliced with butter or cream cheese.
